About

Live the experience and expect the unexpected: next to jewels of the past the Turicum Quartet never stops exploring new paths. Echoes from the east, sounds from space, miscellaneous moods of composers. Four individual voices from four different countries. A rich diversity forming a wonderful unity. Resonating for a long time after the last chord.

2023 the Turicum Quartet became second prizewinner of the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition. Highly acclaimed, their performance was worldwide livestreamed by Medici TV and they appeared in The Strad and on The Violin Channel.

The string quartet was founded in 2021 at the Zurich University of the Arts. Already some months later it was awarded a Kiwanis Music Prize. Highlights since then included their debut in Tonhalle Zurich, concerts at the Mizmorim Festival with the renowned Gringolts Quartet and a concert series for Villa Musica in Germany. 2024 the Turicum Quartet was “Quartet in Residence” at the Ticino Musica Festival.

The Turicum Quartet is very grateful for the support and guidance of Ilya Gringolts (Gringolts Quartet), Axel Schacher (Belcea Quartet), Gregor Sigl (Artemis Quartet), Markus Fleck (casalQuartet) and Hariolf Schlichtig (Cherubini Quartet).

2024-2025 they are admitted in Basel for a graduate course in the classes of Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet) and Silvia Simionescu (Gringolts Quartet). They were also selected for the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), were chosen as “Stipendiat” of Villa Musica and became part of “Le Dimore del Quartetto”, an international network for the promotion of chamber music and European cultural heritage.

“Turicum” is the ancient roman name of Zurich, the place where the quartet was founded.
